French Bread Recipe

Servings size: 1 large loaf
Preparation Time: 0:5 min prep and time to rise and bake
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups water -- warmed
- 2 teaspoons butter -- softened
- 4 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons yeast
Directions
Add all ingredients in the given order. Put on regular setting in bread machine or use the bread machine just to make dough (use dough setting) and when dough is ready to bake, punch down, knead quickly, form into desired loaf form, and let rise about 15 minutes. Put in cold oven, heat oven to 400 degrees and bake approximately 20 minutes or until crust is evenly browned.
Note: can add a 1/3 cup of bran to this recipe, if desired.
